Merrimack River Report #17 October 24, 2005

Well, the season is pretty much over. There may still be some fish migrating along the Plum Island beaches but with the weather we have been having the fishing conditions are mostly poor. My boat is out of the water and sitting on the trailer waiting to be winterized and then covered for the winter.

I did not get out fishing in the area very much since my last report. I spent some time shore fishing down on the Cape and had some success. I caught a few nice big blue fish off of jetties on the south side. Then, when I returned to the Merrimack I had a few good trips with medium size schoolie stripers. Fishing was restricted due to the lousy weather with wind and rain.

This time of year I focus on cleaning up tackle and storing it. I keep a couple of spin and fly outfits ready for a good day. Soon it will be time to tie flies for the upcoming show season.
